Conversion of Grade 2 listed barn to house
Client: Private Client | Borehamwood
This listed barn was on the At Risk register and was part of a much larger complex. All that remained was the barn and a 19C stable block linked by a ‘flying’ feed store. The scheme is an unusual, multi-purpose dwelling with linked but separate accommodation in the stable and a large space for family gatherings etc.
The existing structure was repaired in a conservative manner and a large amount of the original boarding was retained to retain a sense of authenticity. The barn is overclad with lime plaster and lath + sheepswool insulation. The floor is power-floated concrete in the barn and tiles in the link.
Interesting fact: the barn was used in the filming of an episode of the 1970 detective series Randall & Hopkirk (deceased)
