New Sports and Performing Arts Pavilion

Client:  The John Henry Newman School  I  Stevenage

This £ 3.3M scheme has added much needed and fit-for-purpose floorspace to a formerly badly overcrowded school.  It comprises dance, activity and drama studios with indoor/outdoor changing facilities and a sports classroom. On the first floor is a purpose-designed music department with new classrooms, suites of practice and teaching rooms and a recital room.

Sets of trees either side with TPOs and the proximity of the cricket pitch constrained the available space. The materials and colours were designed to respect most of the adjacent buildings in order to maintain visual coherence.  The pitched roofs are different and helped to reduce the overall bulk of the building.  Opened in July 2016.
